“Stemming from personal tragedy and loss, the poems are somber and stark. The first song is introductory in nature. The second, preceded by a long, ruminative prologue is the more intense expression, with suggestions of tumultuous motion and restlessness. The mood finally disperses in favor of the music of the opening, but now the voice is added where there were only instruments previously. The ending seeks to fuse vocal and orchestral colors in a stately epilogue. The cycle last approximately 16 minutes.” LK
