New release on Bridge Records: Keyboards/Winds: Music of Louis Karchin

Bridge Records releases its third album of Mr. Karchin's music, including his Quintet for Winds, Sonata-Fantasia, Three Images, Summer Song, A Jersey Reverie on New York Notes, and Processions. Performers include Windscape, the faculty woodwind quintet of the Manhattan School of Music, pianists Stephen Drury, Michael Stephen Brown and Han Chen, clarinettist Marianne Gythfeldt, and organist Carson Cooman.

The Horszowski Trio performs Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano

The Horszowski Trio joins the The Village Trip Arts Festival to perform works by composers who have lived in and around Greenwich Village. The New York premiere of Karchin's 25-minute Piano Trio (2018) is presented alongside works by Paul Chihara, Wang Jie and Elliott Carter. Shostakovich’s landmark Second Trio rounds out the program.

Da Capo performs Incantations and Dances

The Da Capo Chamber Players present the world premiere of Mr. Karchin's Incantations and Dances (2023) for “Pierrot” ensemble with percussion. James Baker conducts, and the evening shines a spotlight on the music of Elliott Carter, with a performance of his Triple Duo among other works. Carter scholar John Link will host a panel discussion with Mr. Karchin, and Tyson Davis, whose work also appears on the program.

Marshall Opera

The inaugural concert of the Marshall Opera (named for the founder of the Center for Contemporary Opera, Robert Marshall) will present arias from a host of operas that CCO curated under the leadership of its recent director, James Schaeffer. Mr. Karchin's aria from his opera, Jane Eyre, will be performed by soprano Monica Niemi, and composers Victoria Bond, Daron Hagen, Tobias Picker, Judith Shatin, Scott Wheeler and many more, will be represented.
